Leaving Liverpool for London, 26-28 July

July 26
We didn’t make another visit into town to check out a couple of clubs-everyone was too tired to go out again.
Today we traveled to Heathrow to drop off the rental car and find our way to Steve and Kate’s. We stopped at Warwick for lunch, and were entertained by groups of Morris Dancers in the square. Apart from the more traditional dancers, there were also groups dressed in black tassly type costumes with blackened faces that danced in a more vigorous style.
Arriving at Heathrow we had considerable difficulty finding the rental drop off place –their instructions were difficult to follow and I think we only found it in the end by almost circling the whole of the airport.
We caught the train from the airport to the Arsenal station and Steve picked us up from there and took us to their place. We had a very pleasant evening over drinks and a BBQ with Steve and Kate, her sister Jude and fiancÈ Ed, and another friend.
Weather is very hot.
July 27
Spent a quiet day with Steve and Kate. Walked to a cafÈ for a late lunch and then spent rest of the afternoon catching up on emails.
July 28
This morning we went into town and took a guided walk around Mayfair for 2 hours. Interesting having the historic places described, tales told, and architecture styles explained.
After this we caught up with Tristram and Renee for lunch. We had a very pleasant time catching up with them –they were heading off to Amsterdam for the week that evening.
In town it was extremely hot so we grabbed a few things for dinner and returned to Steve and Kate’s where we had another very pleasant evening over a few drinks and dinner. Steve and Kate were excellent hosts and we really enjoyed our short stay with them.
